Mr. Philip Gan M.B.,B.S., FRACS

Philip comes from a Eurasian background and grew up in the suburbs of Melbourne. He even has two First Fleet ancestors!

Philip attained his medical degree in 1991 from
the University of Melbourne and subsequently trained in general surgery through the Austin & Repatriation Hospital in Heidelberg, Victoria, attaining his Fellowship of the Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) at the end of 2000. He obtained further training in Upper Gastrointestinal and Colorectal surgery at the Monash Medical Centre in 2001 and developed a particular interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery. This presently includes laparoscopic colorectal surgery, hernia repair, splenectomy, and Lap-Band surgery.

Philip moved from Melbourne to the Victorian coastal city of Warrnambool in 2002. His wife, Dr Ping Fung, is a general practitioner and is an integral part of the Lap-Band surgical practice, performing initial work-up and education, nutritional support, assistance at surgery and long term follow up. They have two primary school aged children. Philip holds consultant positions as general surgeon at Southwest Healthcare and St John of God Hospitals in Warrnambool. He has been performing Lap-Band surgery since 2002.

Lap-Band surgery is only offered in the private sector in Warrnambool. All non insured patients will be referred on to public hospital services in Melbourne.
